Derek’s career in senior care began in 2015, when he worked as a caregiver while attending college. Those hours spent serving and building relationships with residents became some of the most meaningful experiences of his career and shaped his passion for senior care.
Throughout college, Derek worked for a senior living consulting and management company, gaining experience with assisted living and memory care communities. He developed a passion for helping struggling communities succeed by improving occupancy, strengthening culture, supporting staff, and, most importantly, improving the experience of the residents they served.
Derek earned his bachelor’s degree in Community Health with an emphasis in Health Services Administration. After graduating, he returned home to Idaho and continued his career as a senior living administrator.
Through every role, Derek saw one consistent need: seniors and their families need someone in their corner. That realization led him to partner with Grannie on the Move, where he now uses his assisted living and memory care experience to help Idaho families navigate senior care and find the right home and level of support for their loved ones. As a licensed health insurance agent, Derek can also help seniors navigate their Medicare and Medicaid options.
Outside of work, Derek enjoys life in Homedale with his wife, Randee, and their three children, Lydia, Mack, and Layna. Derek trains border collies and competes in stock dog trials, while Randee enjoys breakaway roping and barrel racing. Together, they love raising their kids around dogs, horses, and the agricultural lifestyle they call home.
